40 Childcare Centres Close as Provider Faces Allegations and Declining Enrolments

G8 Education, Australia’s largest for-profit childcare provider, will shut 40 centres nationwide following a sharp drop in enrolments after serious allegations involving a staff member at a Melbourne facility.

The closures span Victoria, WA, NSW, Queensland, and South Australia, with occupancy falling to just over 56%. The company says declining parent confidence and operational pressures drove the decision.

Around 1,000 educators could be impacted, while families are being transitioned to alternative centres.

Authorities continue investigations, as the incident raises fresh concerns over safety and oversight in the childcare sector.
